In light of the recent events in our country, the staff here at The$alaryCap.com has been on a bit of a hiatus. Given some of our roots in the New York metropolitan area, we have spent the last few days in deep reflection, remembrance, and above all, anger. As President Bush and Mayor Giuliani have told us to do, however, we are getting back to work and trying to get as back to normal as we can. We do not come to you with a trite article about how badly we feel about the people that have been affected by these events. For people who have not suffered a personal loss in this tragedy to even assume that they can empathize with those that have trivializes their pain. Our thoughts and prayers do go out to those that have been more directly affected by this horrific event. For us to spend an article reflecting on it, however, using the same clichés that have been spread by other reporters and citizens who really cannot begin to fathom how this is affecting the victims’ families is a waste of our time and yours. If you want to hear that kind of trite drivel, tune in to see MTV’s Carson Daly for your world news. We think a little more highly of our readers than that. We here at The$alaryCap.com wish to state our unwavering support for President Bush during this crisis.
There is a vocal minority among the public that supports a peaceful solution, including political sanctions and barriers to trade, and these citizens are morally opposed to any violent retaliatory action against Osama Bin Laden and Afghanistan. While we are sure that a peaceful solution is what most people would want in a perfect world, most people have also realized that that is not the reality we live in. For the 10% of the country that feels we should try to reason with Bin Laden and his terrorist group, we pose two questions to you: 1. How do you plan on reasoning with people that knowingly and willingly kill themselves in order to protest the freedom that the United States affords its citizens? and 2. Why should anyone take the idea of a peaceful resolution to be conceivable when Saddam Hussein is its biggest political supporter? If someone can answer that, we are sure that President Bush would love to hear from you. Otherwise, it is time for the United States to go to war. We will take down Bin Laden, his terrorist organization, any country who has harbored him (Afghanistan?), anyone who has helped to fund his actions (Iraq and Hussein?), and basically anyone connected to him in any way.
In a way, this tragedy has had an unexpected positive effect on our country. One cannot walk more than a few feet without seeing an American flag either in a storefront, lining the streets, or in a car window. For too long, America has simply been a melting pot, filled with many people from different ethnic backgrounds living in the same area. This sentiment has been perpetuated by the politically correct era in which we have been living. Everyone is a hyphenated American, whether it be African-American, Irish-American, Native American, or any other type of -American one can think of. Today, however, we stand as one America. We do not need any prefixes attached, as we are all Americans. This includes those citizens who have fled the Middle East for the safe haven of the United States and its values of freedom, independence, and opportunity. Let us not condemn an entire people for the actions of a few. This recent act of violence unto our country, designed to tear our country apart has, in fact, made us more united than ever. We have finally begun to move out of the age of hypersensitive multiculturalism, into an age where when someone asks you what your ethnic background is, you can say “I am an American, period.” We salute you President Bush, and to those out there who have lost a loved one on this day of terror, believe us when we say that no one will have died in vain. We will punish all of those involved and this will help to usher us into an unprecedented era of freedom and prosperity. Unfortunately, such a horrific event was necessary to wake this slumbering giant known as the United States, but as Japan and Germany learned in World War Two, when you play with fire, you’re going to get burned. To Osama Bin Laden and the rest of the cowardly terrorists and rogue nations out there, we have one thing to say: Prepare to get burned.
